This year it’s all about comfort, convenience, and curves.
If there's one thing to know about Australians, it's that we take immense pride in our outdoor living spaces. After all, we're known for being lovers of the great outdoors. Reimagining outdoor spaces as stylish extensions of our interiors has always been on top of our minds for Aussies everywhere.
The forecast for 2022? Comfort, convenience and – wait for it – curves. While you may be wondering what exactly such trends entail, we're here to assure you they aren't ones you'll want to ignore. Ahead, the trends paving the way in outdoor living for this coming year.
1. ACTIVITY ZONES
In 2021 (and let's not forget 2020), our homes were hard at work doubling as a place to work, rest and play. While international travel was very much off the cards, homeowners found solace in a new destination spot not too far from home: their backyards. With space being such a precious commodity these days, homeowners are now eager to mould even the smallest backyards or courtyards into multi-purpose outdoor spaces by creating "activity zones" dedicated to various uses such as dining, relaxing and entertaining.
2. PRIVACY, PLEASE
This one shouldn't come as a surprise to many, but privacy is officially back in vogue. Why, you ask? Well, as we come to spend more time outdoors it's only natural that our desire for privacy increases too (nosy neighbours, we're looking at you). Coupled with the fact that the ever-popular open plan design is losing its shine, private outdoor spaces have never been more covetable.
3. CURVE APPEAL
It's no secret that curves have been dominating the world of interiors for quite some time now and and we're quite happy to say they aren't going anywhere soon. Homeowners are leaning in to all this trend has to offer and rumour has it we're about to see a whole lot more of this trend in our outdoor spaces too. Whether it be a curvaceous courtyard or simply an arched window, curves add a welcomed sense of softness and organic fluidity to both gardens and outdoor living spaces, making them even more inviting and eye-catching.
4. ECO FRIENDLY & EASY TO MAINTAIN
You've all heard it before; reduce, reuse, and recycle. We're no strangers to the concept of sustainability but we can expect to see a lot more of it in 2022, especially where our outdoor spaces are concerned. But don't fear, this doesn't necessarily mean you have to compromise on the aesthetics of your spaces. Homeowners are opting for materials that are easy to maintain without requiring a lot of time, effort, and expense.
